Quantum Litmus — The Daily Reality Check for Quantum Computing
Independent, evidence-first analysis of what changed in quantum computing today, why it matters, and what the evidence does not yet show.
Rigetti builds a delivery organization around paid quantum-system demand
Its customers are buying systems for research, capability-building and hybrid HPC experimentation—meaningful experimental adoption, not yet productive quantum advantage.
Today’s top signal
Paid experimentation is part of the commercialization path
In plain English
Credit first: Rigetti has assigned manufacturing, installations, supply chain, customer engineering and commercial functions to a dedicated Systems Delivery organization under COO David Rivas, while CTO Andrew Bestwick concentrates on processor architecture, fabrication and hardware engineering. This is not merely preparation for hypothetical demand. Rigetti previously disclosed an $8.4 million order for a 108-qubit system from India’s C-DAC and two upgradeable 9-qubit Novera orders totaling about $5.7 million. The purposes of those purchases are revealing: one Novera customer wants a testbed to build internal quantum expertise and benchmark its own quantum technologies; the other plans quantum-hardware and error-correction R&D; C-DAC plans to integrate its system into an HPC environment for hybrid quantum-classical research. That is tangible value today even though it is not yet productive quantum advantage. It advances the commercialization learning curve from access into capability-building, experimentation and hybrid integration. The boundary is equally important: these purchases do not show that a customer has solved a production problem faster, cheaper or better than with classical computing. They are evidence of paid experimental adoption, not yet paid productive adoption.
